Sport at Wainui
At Wainui School, we provide a variety of sporting opportunities that grow with our students - from developing fundamental movement skills in the junior years to representing our school in regional competitions.

In-School Events
Our internal events focus on participation, house spirit, and personal bests. These happen during school hours and utilize our unique local environment.
Athletics (Term 1)
Years 1-4: Focuses on fundamental athletic skills and movements.
Years 5-8: A competitive day where students test their skills in high jump, long jump, discus, shot put, and sprints. Top performers are selected for regional zones.
Cross Country (Term 3)
We are incredibly fortunate to have our own native bush and bike track on-site, offering a scenic and challenging 550m course unique to Wainui School.
The Challenge: Students complete between 1 and 7 laps depending on their year group.
Pathways: Year 5/6 finalists represent Wainui at Shakespear Regional Park, while Year 7/8 students tackle the course at Muriwai Beach.
Interschool Competitions
We welcome and encourage all students in these age groups to "give it a go." Selections are based on in-school trials, and students are expected to attend regular training sessions.
Cost & Support: There is no additional cost for students to participate in these events. While a Wainui School teacher is always present, these days are only possible with parent support for coaching, supervision, and transportation.
